If the source of a picture to fetch it from is Wikipedia or nlnet.nl, I think we can rely on this source to be stable for a reasonable time frame; in most other cases, this is shaky and we should rather go to hold the pictures in the repo (as just done for recent projects added, e.g., Telegram).
