not a drop down, following categories:

  • end user (individuals)
  • policy maker
  • organizations
  • developer
  • IT manager
  • activist

think of "cool" name.

Filter / sort dossiers based on these options on both project and dossier level.

Alex also mentioned

I think we need different metadata fields:

  • project maturity: alpha, beta, mature
  • target audience: developers, SMEs, government, etc.
  • software type: cloud vs local
  • etc.

@ijohn Thank you for noting this down but I think the metadata fields on the different software we list fits in better in #12, where I've left the same note.

We discussed the categories further with Pavel Smrž and we came to two main suggestions.

  1. These target groups can act as different tags, which would easily add the option to filter out different categories

  2. Or we could add a prefferedAudience field to each dossier / project, buttons with each each audience category at the top and if selected the project with same prefferedAudience would get bumped up in the list, with the remained being still available, but under a divider.

@ijohn

Thank you for your work on this.

Out of the presented options, I strongly prefer Option 2. Small clarifying question: How do the audience filters work: Are they combined via a logical AND or logical OR if two (or more) audiences are selected?

However, neither option is what I understood (maybe I am mistaken) as the goal from our last TD meeting. IIRC we envisioned, that the different target audiences should have a separate page which can give some general background information tailored to that particular group and list the alternatives in the ranking you describe.

If this is the case we should wait for the next meet and clarify it

But maybe this is compatible with the option two. If the audience text is set per audience group we could just output it bellow the audience selection.

In the place of the red asterisk *. Would this work @puer-robustus ?

How do the audience filters work: Are they combined via a logical AND or logical OR if two (or more) audiences are selected?

Thats up to us, both are possible. Currently the tag filters work like AND (adding more tags makes the selection more specific).

I don' think this moved anywhere for a while. Is this still a feature we want in the app?

@ijohn Before implementing this, we should agree on the page taxonomy (#26, #27). That taxonomy should then drive the filters/tag combinations for the site, IMHO.
